Here’re 5 Different Types Of Donuts You Need To Know About:

1.Yeast Donuts

Yeast donuts are also referred to as ‘raised donuts’. As the name suggests, these types of doughnuts use yeast as a leavener, giving it a light and airy interior. They are full of air pockets which makes them less likely to crumble.

2.Cake Donuts

Unlike yeast donuts, these donuts are leavened using baking powder. They have a denser base and have a texture that resembles that of a cake. Due to its dense and heavy base, cake donuts are able to hold all your favourite toppings.

Another donut type that you need to know about is cruller. These donuts have a unique, twisted shape that may be circular or rectangular. While the French cruller is generally ring-shaped, the ones in New England tend to be rectangular-shaped. They also generally come with a honey or vanilla glaze.

4. Long John

These bar-shaped donuts are risen with yeast and sometimes filled with jelly or custard. They are similar to an eclair but are fried rather than baked. Long John’s are either coated entirely with glaze or top-coated with icing.

5.Old-Fashioned Donuts

Old-fashioned donuts date back to the 1830s. They are prepared in the shape of a ring and have a similar glaze to that of a classic glazed donut. These donuts are crunchy from the outside and soft from the inside.
